Spanish is a world language with around 400 million speakers and is today one of the most important languages for commerce and cultural exchange. Warwick offers an innovative approach, combining the study of the Spanish language with the study of the diverse range of Hispanic cultures across Europe, the Caribbean, the Americas, and event aspects of Hispanic history in Africa and the Pacific. All our programmes are designed to enable you to study the Spanish language and Hispanic literatures and cultures to the highest level, while developing your communication, analytical and research skills. You will work closely with leading researchers whose specialisms range from contemporary Spain to Latin America, via Galicia, the Caribbean, the Atlantic and even the UK.
We accept both beginners and students with some knowledge of Spanish, and in your first year we teach you in classes appropriate to your linguistic level. Your first year of study provides a strong linguistic and cultural foundation, with core language and culture courses introducing students to a wide range of subjects and skills. Intermediate and final years in Warwick continue advanced language study along with a personalised selection from our portfolio of specialist cultural modules, allowing for both depth and breadth of study. You will have the opportunity to study abroad in your second or third year, immersed in Hispanic culture in Spain, the Caribbean, or South America.
At the end of the course you should have a high-level linguistic fluency and intercultural competence, extensive experience of living and working internationally, in-depth knowledge and understanding of the Hispanic world, its histories and cultures and excellent research, analysis and communication skills.
