Taking Early Modern History enables you to investigate some of the most dramatic events, issues and personalities from European and British history. The course focuses on the 16th and 17th centuries - a period of great change and conflict. In AS you will develop a detailed understanding of the causes of the European witch hunts through studying the European Reformation and attitudes to morality, gender and religious belief. You will also study the events of the early and late 17th century in Britain. In the A2 course, you will investigate the nature and impact of the cultural and political changes of the Renaissance. You will also investigate in more depth the tumultuous changes that took place in Britain during the 17th century by focusing on Charles 1st and the origins of the Civil War.
