This newly developed course reflects the UK’s burgeoning life science industry and the growing demand for highly skilled scientific personnel. The programme develops knowledge and critical understanding of the well-established principles in this field while linking with employers to ensure that skills remain current and relevant to industry. Upon successful completion, graduating students will be able to embark on scientific careers in local and central government, the food and pharmaceutical industries or in the laboratory sciences. Graduates might also move onto postgraduate research or opt to join the Scientist Training Programme through the NHS and study for an MSc in a chosen discipline.

Course programme

The Foundation Degree and BSc (Hons) programmes in Human Biosciences allow you to develop a range of analytical and scientific skills and practical techniques of enquiry to enable you to apply knowledge, understanding and skills in the workplace. We will encourage you to adopt a critical approach to documented theories and practice, to propose alternative methodologies and solutions, and to justify their implementation. The programme will also develop your oral and written communication skills along with your knowledge of a range of technology systems. Practical skills and associated safety and ethical issues are an important part of the course.
