The BTEC National Certificate in Science is a vocational course that is designed for students who prefer a course based on coursework rather than examination components. It is a two year course and is equivalent to two A Levels.

This one year course is intended for those students who have not obtained grade C or above in a high school GCSE Science course but need this qualification for a career such as teaching or nursing. Topics from Chemistry, Biology and Physics are taught by specialist teachers in a science laboratory.

Subjects studied include:

· Human biology

· Evolution

· Environment

· Energy and electricity

· Radiation and the universe.

Teacher assessed practical work counts for 25% of the final grade. GCSE Science is a recognised part of the National Qualifications framework.
