About this course
Grade C in GCSE Maths and English. Alternatively a Merit in the OCR Level 2 National Certificate in ICT (4 GCSE equivalent). If you have studied a GCSE equivalent ICT qualification you should have achieved at least a C grade.

What will I study?
The course is designed to give you practical experience in using common software and hardware in providing solutions to simulated real world situations. Evidence will be provided by a combination of written and observed assessment. You are expected to:
- carry out some independent research using the internet and other sources, and present this in a suitable format e.g. Web Security, Internet History, Computer Game Technology
- be able to master a wide range of software packages and use them appropriately without assistance e.g. spreadsheet (EXCEL), database (ACCESS), web authoring (Dreamweaver), Desk Top Publishing (InDesign), animation (Flash), image production (Fireworks), presentation (Powerpoint)
- produce and manipulate original digital images (PhotoShop), including video (PremierPro) and sound editing eg using digital cameras, scanners, microphones and editing software,
- design, produce and publish a web site of your choice make use of advanced spreadsheet and database software features to capture, store and analyse data
- use of computer based collaboration tools to communicate and share work for a team activity
- present evidence of your work in a portfolio
How is this course assessed?
There are no exams. All units are assessed through coursework.
- YEAR 1: This will consist of 6 separate units. To proceed to the second year you must pass all six units
- YEAR 2: A LEVEL DOUBLE AWARD equivalent max 240 UCAS points. This will comprise a further 6 separate units. For certification, you must pass at least 10 out of 12 units provided you have achieved some Merit or higher grades.
What next?
You will have a level of ICT skills that is highly valued by employers. The course provides you with practical knowledge of how ICT systems service the information needs of an organisation and will assist you in your future higher education studies and employment. This course is particularly useful if your intended degree or career area is in Multimedia, Graphic or Web Design.
