Course Summary:
IMI Accreditations are a national voluntary scheme which tests the competence of individuals working in the retail automotive industry who are committed to an ethical code of conduct.
It gives light vehicle technicians:
proof of current technical competence and ethical responsibility
enhanced status as an accredited technician
This pathway is also recognised by the Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) as a pathway to achieve a Level 3 standard to become an MOT tester.
This assessment must be reaccredited every 3 years upon achievement.
Entry requirements
Inspection technician candidates must be able to work unsupervised and should have been in full-time employment within the motor industry (as a vehicle technician) for at least three years to ensure they have the experience and familiarity with the techniques for vehicle servicing, inspection and...

Course programme

Course Content: This accreditation is either held over either one full day or two evenings. Once you have been briefed on the assessments and equipment, it will only involve the assessment of your current skill level and competency, no training is given. How will I be assessed? Candidates are assessed on six prescribed practical inspection assessments and two online exams. Areas covered include: Electrical Systems Braking System Steering & Suspension System Vehicle Structure Vehicle Appraisal Are there any additional costs or specialist equipment required? You must bring and wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment for working on a vehicle - protective clothing and safety shoes. All other equipment will be provided. What can I do after this course? You can apply to become an MOT Tester with the Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA).
