What is the Improving your Computer Skills course? This course is designed for those who have completed the -Computing for Beginners course or who already have some computer skills in using email, internet and creating simple '-Word Processing' documents. Students will learn how to improve their use of Microsoft Office for work processing, email and the internet.

Level: This is a Pre Level 2 course

Students MUST have attended the beginners course or have reasonable skills using MS Word. What is the Improving your Computer Skills course?
This course is designed for those who have completed the -Computing for Beginners†course or who already have some computer skills in using email, internet and creating simple -Word Processing documents.

Students will learn how to improve their use of Microsoft Office for work processing, email and the internet. They will gain confidence in using the computer for use at work and home. This course should be considered as the pre-requisite for the European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) or ITQ Level 2.

Course topics
  • Recap Word basics: Open, close, add, edit text, save, print, margins
  • Word Processing cut/copy/paste to copy and move text and pictures
  • Use bullets and numbers to create lists and to number paragraphs
  • Use line spacing
  • Insert and format pictures
  • Use spellchecker/Thesaurus, Using Help
  • Put text into tables, columns
  • Add headers and footers to documents
  • Improving Email and internet skills

Teaching and Learning
This course is tutor-led in a dedicated IT room where each student will have use of their own computer. Although it is not a requirement, it does help you gain confidence if you are able to practise in between lessons on a computer at home.

There are no formal assessments with this course.
