Course programme

Is this subject right for me?
This course is at GCSE level and is really good for anyone who has not already completed a level 2 qualification in IT. If you enjoy practical work and like creating things on a computer then this could be the course for you. You will need to enjoy working on a computer and be willing to take an active part in all lessons as there will be discussions and group work as well as individual project work.

What is involved?

In order to pass the first award you will need to complete one mandatory unit and one optional unit. Unit one (mandatory award) is all about IT skills in business and will include use of email, desk top publishing, databases and spreadsheets. You will then have the opportunity to complete at least one optional unit. For students who do well on this course you will have the opportunity to increase your award to a national award instead of first award and this is the equivalent of two GCSE†s at grade C or above. The optional units include creating computer
graphics, webpage production and animations for the World Wide Web.

How will your work be assessed?

All the work you complete on this course will be portfolio based and will be marked by your teacher and then externally moderated by the exam board.

What are the entry requirements?

Two grade Ds and three E†s at GCSE.
