This module is designed to provide a thorough introduction to the study of Information Technology. It looks at Information Technology, its uses and applications in solving problems, and provides a sound basis for students who wish to progress into Higher Education or who want to enhance their CVs.
There are no formal entry requirements but candidates should have a reasonable standard of communication and numeracy skills and must be able to refer to and carry out written instructions. Basic computer skills are also recommended.
Course Content
The course is delivered as two free standing units and is of a largely practical nature.
Unit 1: Information Technology Applications
This covers computer systems, the representation of information, applications and the impact of IT, computer terminology, word-processing, spreadsheets and databases.
Unit 2: Internet Technologies
This covers the effective use of internet technologies, email, internet browsers, searching the Internet and web development to produce and publish web pages.
Assessment
Unit 1: Assessment is by means of one integrated practical assignment based on application packages and one theory assignment.
Unit 2: Is assessed by one practical web development assignment and one theory test.
This is an evening course - Monday 6.30 - 9.30pm.
