About this course

One GCE A Level or equivalent professional/work experience in a relevant subject plus GCSE English Language and Mathematics at Grade C or equivalent.
Candidates who wish to enter the programme but do not meet the specified entry criteria will need to demonstrate their ability to study at the appropriate level.

This programme will appeal to those who work, or who are interested in the voluntary sectors, schools or children`s centres nurseries, as well as nursery nurses, play leaders or support workers who seek professional development and qualifications for career progression. What is the course about?
These two Foundation Degrees will be delivered by partners from the Health and Social Care strand of Greater Merseyside and West Lancashire LLN - an exciting collaboration between universities and colleges in the region providing you with educational pathways that support your career development. The Foundation Degrees provide you with an opportunity to participate in delivering health and social care services to children or young people as part of the `expansion and improvement to services set out in the Government`s `Every Child Matters: Change for Children`s strategy. Your skills will be developed to help deliver an integrated service to these groups of young people in settings such as schools or community centres.
You will be introduced to study skills, human development, the working environment and communication skills. You will also study the individual in the social context, health and wellbeing, working partnerships and the vulnerable child/young person in Year 1. Year 2 will examine social inclusion, promoting health and well being, meeting complex needs, ethical issues and leadership and management.

No specialist equipment required.

How long & often do I attend?
The programme runs full-time over 32 weeks for two years, or part-time over three years.

How will I be assessed?
During the modules you will be assessed in theory or theory and practice. You will have a personal tutor who will support you throughout the programme.

What opportunities will this lead to?
Once you have successfully completed the Foundation Degree, you can progress on to a part-time BSc(Hons) Degree, either Integrated Practitioner in Children`s Health & Social Welfare or Integrated Practitioner in Young Peoples Health & Social Welfare depending on which pathway you have chosen.
