iMedia (formerly known as eMedia) enables you to develop the creative design and technical software skills you need to produce digital and new media content such as adverts and web sites. You will cover digital image manipulation using Photoshop, web design with Dreamweaver and web animation using Flash. This practical work will be backed up by research into how the digital media industry operates and how to work creatively to fulfil a client brief. The BTEC National Award in Interactive Media (iMedia) is a course that straddles technology, industry practice and design. This is a six unit course equivalent to one A Level. You will be expected to take two AS/A2s in other subjects or a BTEC National Certificate alongside iMedia.

About this course
Five GCSEs at grades A*-C to include Maths and English at grade C or above. You should also have good IT skills, some design flair and a genuine interest in using computers as a creative tool.

Two years five hours a week.
Do I need any additional qualifications/ skills?
This is an Apple Mac based course, so all of your class time is in a Mac Suite, but you can work on your assignments on your home PC or Mac.
How will I be assessed?
The method of assessment is through coursework assignments. These will be made up of practical and research projects, including the production of web sites, web animations and written reports. These will be graded at Pass, Merit and Distinction.
What can I do afterwards?
You can apply for a broad range of courses at University with this qualification. Related subjects include digital media design, multimedia, advertising design, digital graphics, animation and computer games design. Sussex Downs College offers a Foundation Degree (FdA) and a BA (Hons) in Digital Media Design in partnership with the University of Brighton, so you can aim to progress to Higher Education within the college.
Are there any additional costs involved?
It is useful to have a storage device, such as a USB memory stick, for saving your work. Also folders cost 50p.
