The design of interiors can have a fundamental effect on our everyday lives, from where we work to how we live. Interior design is a fast-moving discipline that aims to improve our experience of many different places, from the home to retail and commercial environments, exhibition spaces and places of leisure and hospitality. This programme provides an in-depth, industry-focused education that will help you to develop the creativity, knowledge and skills necessary for working as an interior designer across various sectors of the profession. You will explore this thinking through a study of the history and theory of interior design, as well as drawing and making. You will look at design in a number of fields and take on a variety of design challenges. You will learn from experienced lecturers, many of whom have industry backgrounds and experience of working on practical design projects. You will visit design studios and have opportunities to work on live projects and competitions that give you the chance to show your creative talents. Study methods You will be taught in small classes in a studio environment. Teaching staff on the programme have a wide range of expertise in retail, commercial, residential, exhibition and furniture design and have worked with high-profile clients ranging from internet companies to department stores. Work is mainly project-based. We use a wide range of learning and assessment methods, including individual tutorials, group critiques, seminar presentations, discussion groups and team teaching. Live project work and extra input from guest lecturers will enable you to build valuable links with industry and increase your understanding of current business practices. Length
This is a three-year programme, or four years if you begin on the Integrated Design Foundation. Each academic year is split into two 12-week terms.

The programme will give you a sound understanding of interior design principles, practices and professional standards.
You will learn to apply design styles and theory to a given brief and how to select and apply the appropriate materials, tools and techniques to realise your ideas.
Practical design work is underpinned by studies in the history and theory of design.
You will also gain the skills you need to communicate your ideas successfully to clients and employers.
