Course Summary:
You will be provided with a foundation in the broad range of skills required to work competently within the arboriculture industry. Practical skills will be developed in the workplace while theoretical background knowledge will be taught and reviewed mainly at College.
This qualification is for anyone aged 16 or over with a job or work placement as a forest worker. You don't need any previous experience to get started.
Entry requirements
You need one of the following:
Introductory Diploma in a related subject
or
Three GCSEs at grade D or above.
You should also have a standard of English and maths equivalent to Functional Skills Level 1.

Course programme

Course Content: The Diploma in Work-based Trees and Timber Level 2 enables you to develop the skills in forestry and arboriculture that employers are looking for. Pathways include forestry establishment, maintenance and harvesting, green wood trades, and arboriculture. How will I be assessed? Training is largely work-based with ongoing practical assessments undertaken in your workplace. You will keep a portfolio of evidence of your practical ability and theoretical understanding. Are there any additional costs or specialist equipment required? You will need full PPE which should be provided by your employer, including safety boots, trousers and helmet with ear defence and visor, and waterproofs. You will also need writing materials. For apprentices over the age of 19, an employer contribution is required. What can I do after this course?
