Intermediate apprentices, with support and opportunities in the workplace, can progress onto the Advanced Apprenticeship in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair. Intermediate apprentices may also progress onto other further education and /or Continuing Professional Development courses or; with relevant opportunities progress into other job roles such as Service Advisor or Maintenance Controller.

Course programme

The Apprenticeship includes core units relating to; health and safety in the automotive environment; materials, fabrication, tools and measuring devices used in the automotive environment; support for job roles in the automotive environment; removing and replacing light vehicle chassis units and components; removing and replacing light vehicle engine units and components; removing and replacing light vehicle electrical units and components; light vehicle fuel, ignition, air and exhaust systems units and components; routine light vehicle maintenance. In addition, there is a range of unit options to select from. You will achieve a Level 2 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Competence and a Level 2 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Principles and a Level 2 Award in Knowledge of Employee Rights and Responsibilities for the Automotive Sector. Unless exempt on entry, you will also achieve Level 1 Functional Skills qualifications in English, Maths and ICT.You will learn through a combination of on- and off-the-job training. You will attend college one day per week during term time and spend the rest of your time earning and learning in the workplace. You will be assessed on a continuous basis through a combination of knowledge and practical assessment activities, including assessment of activities in the workplace. Your progress will be continuously monitored and supported by an Apprenticeship Achievement Officer.
