Course Overview
This course allows you to acquire intermediate electrical/electronic/computer maintenance competencies in a college based environment which simulates working practice. It covers basic engineering working practices to give a broader perspective on the use of computers in industry.
Course Structure
This programme is delivered over one year
You will study 3 mandatory units:
- Engineering environment awareness
- Engineering techniques
- Engineering principles
& 3 course specific units:
- Personal computer maintenance, repair & networking
- Electrical & electronic principles
- Electrical & electronic systems & devices
Qualification Aims
VRQ Level 2 in Engineering Technology (Electrical Route)
Key Skills in Maths, English & ICT
There is then the opportunity for candidates to progress onto the VRQ L3
Assessments/Examinations
End of course online exam (based on the 3 mandatory units)
Course specific units are assessed by internally marked assignments undertaken by the students at key stages of the course

Tuition is FREE to those aged 16-18yrs
Free tuition is available to those in receipt of certain means tested benefits or to their un-waged dependants (registration fees may still apply)
