Introduction: The BTEC Nationals Robotics is a Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Engineering and is for learners who want to pursue a career in engineering, and who want to be able to collaborate across and apply knowledge, skills and understanding in other branches of engineering. They can either progress directly to an apprenticeship or employment as an engineering technician or can choose to progress to higher education to study for an engineering degree. The qualification is equivalent in size to three A Levels at 1080 GLH and is intended to be a Tech Level qualification. It has also been designed to meet the Tech Bacc measure when studied alongside Level 3 mathematics and the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ). About the course: The BTEC National Robotic in Engineering programme combines the best practices of the College of North West London robotics and that of its partners in industries with the state of the art teaching facilities coupled with nationally recognised reputation in this area. Students gain specialist knowledge with emphasis on robotics, mechatronics and automation applications; robotics is a multidisciplinary study dealing with sensors, mechanical devices, electronics, microcontrollers and programming. During the course, there will be a comprehensive introduction to robotics and the underlying concepts of computer science at level 3. The BTEC National Robotics provides an effective and well-balanced introduction to BTEC National level 3 engineering plus fundamental concepts and more specialised knowledge in robotics, mechatronics and programmable controllers The course aims to produce a strong practical skill base that will enable learners to examine, model, analyse, design and prototype smart robotic sub-systems. Practical robotics building skillsets and specialist knowledge will be taught extensively throughout the course. Robots building skillsets and knowledge in key application areas such as industrial robots, rescue drones, obstacle avoiding, warehouse robots, object detection robots and simple GPS based robots. The programme is designed to provide students with in depth knowledge at NQF level 3 in Engineering and Robotics coupled with technical know-how, hands-on experience, and numerous transferable skills through group working, projects and presentation. In addition the opportunity to engage with industries combined with on-going participation in hackathons will make the students confident to seek jobs and work in various industrial environments.
