This list of subjects to be studied looks enormous but the focus is understanding historical circumstances, motivation, interpretation, etc and the topics are just illustrations of the real understanding of the history of cultures and countries throughout the world. A number of the topics link together and overlap so that the same factual material can be used to develop different historical skills.

What else do I need to know?
Students must deal with historical evidence; select, use and synthesise knowledge; explain different views of history; place events in context; explain cause and effect, continuity and change; develop arguments; and demonstrate in depth understanding of approximately 100 years of history. All students also have to plan, organise and present an historical investigation showing their grasp of the skills of historical study.
For Standard Level the internal assessment is 25% and the external 75%.
For Higher Level the internal assessment comprises 20% and the external 80% of the marks.
All examinations are sat in May after 20 months of study. Standard Level has two external written papers and a historical investigation.
Higher Level has three external written papers and a historical investigation.
