International Baccalaureate (Group 6) Theatre Standard Level and Higher Level
Although largely based on creative exploration Theatre involves both practical and academic exploration, such as: independent research, oral presentations, performance proposals and the incorporation of visual material into set projects.

What does the course consist of?
The Theatre course at Higher level consists of four interdependent components:
  • Theatre in the Making:
    Skills and Knowledge through stimuli
  • Theatre in Performance:
    Involvement in 3 performances from different perspectives
  • Theatre in the World:
    Study 2 contrasting theatrical traditions and cultures
  • Independent Project
    (Option A: Devising or Option B: Exploring Practice)
You will also be required to keep a visual and written journal of processes which will inform your Independent Project portfolio.

This course is designed to encourage spontaneity, creative inquiry and problem-solving.
Assessment
Assessments are based on the following criteria:
Higher level:
External Assessment 50%

Research Investigation (2,000- 2,500 words + visuals)
Practical Performance Proposal (250 words + visuals)
Written report (1,000 words)
Internal Assessment 50%

Oral Presentation (30 minutes + visuals)
Independent Project Portfolio (3,000 words)
Standard level
consists of the same four components but written assignments are shorter.
