Your Course
A course for those with a love of Italy and the Italian culture and who would like to understand and make themselves understood while visiting or working in Italy. This course will suit those who have no previous knowledge of Italian. Learning is based on everyday situations: restaurant/cafe, shops, directions etc., with practical dialogues useful for conversation. You will learn a little basic grammar so that you can begin to manipulate the language. You will develop the listening skill to understand what people say and gradually be ready to cope with the unexpected. You will be encouraged to build your own vocabulary lists.
Each lesson will include an introduction to new material, pair work and listening to audio/video material. There will be homework to consolidate what you have learnt. The course book is Espresso 1, Chapters 1, 2 and 3. Photocopies will supplement this when necessary. Handouts are most easily kept in a ring binder, which could also have a section for vocabulary, grammar and homework.
This course feeds into Beginners level 2 [spring term 2010] and then Beginners level 3 [summer term 2010].
During this course you will take a short internal assessment in reading. This will help to prepare you for the OCR ASSET language test that will be taken at the end of the first year of study.
