Knowsley Safari Workshop and Experience

Event Description:

Knowsley Safari Park is a superb location with some great exhibits. Our ‘Safari Experience' day starts with an extended session photographing their herd of African Elephant with unique ‘over the barrier' access to an extremely large and well landscaped enclosure. The Elephants will be encouraged by the keepers to have a morning mud bath so there will be plenty of opportunities for behaviour and action pictures.

Before lunch we spend time with Giraffes, Meerkat and Otters and then in the afternoon we will take to our safari Land Rovers and drive off the roads around the huge enclosures to get some really fantastic and natural looking shoots of things like Rhino, Cape Buffalo, Wildebeest, Fallow deer, Blackbuck, Lechwe, Eland and Ostrich.

We will get exclusive access to photograph the parks 120 strong troop of Baboons out of the vehicles through wide gauge wire fencing. We will also see Giraffe and finish the day with Tigers and an amazing chance to see the pride of Lions very, close up!

We have organised this day to compliment our safari workshops at Woburn and Port Lympne, not only by being in a different part of the country but also by having some very different animals and opportunities.

Because of the nature of this event places are strictly limited so book now to secure a place.

Requirements

What to Bring:

  • You will be outside for a much of the day so you should be dressed to suit the season and weather.
  • We suggest you have a water-proof coat in case of rain. Shelter is available but you should note that all exhibits are outside and hence can not be viewed while using the shelter.
  • Refreshments will be provided on arrival at lunch time and during the afternoon. However you should note this is a private location and there is no opportunity to purchase additional food and drink therefore it is suggested that you bring anything specific you require.
  • You are welcome to bring whatever photographic equipment you believe may be suitable. There is little walking involved and you will always be very close to your vehicle.
  • Digital users should be as much memory as possible as we find people usually take more pictures than they anticipate.
  • We suggest you ensure your batteries are fully charged and you bring spares if you have them.
  • Download and battery charging facilities will be available during the day if required.
  • For film users we recommend ISO 100 or 200 film in normal conditions, although ISO 400 may be useful in poor lighting conditions.
  • Fill in flash might be useful in some conditions e.g. where the subject is backlit.
  • A SLR camera together with standard, wide angle and telephoto lens would be ideal. A zoom lens covering the range up to 300mm will be ample for most situations and shorter focal length lenses will be suitable for close-ups. The layout of the collection even means non-SLR users are able to get good opportunities.
  • A tripod or monopod might be useful for use with long focal length lenses.
  • We have access to a supply of spare memory, film, batteries and cleaning materials if required.
