Aim This very practical 1 year course will give you the opportunity to develop the skills needed for a career in the animal and horse care industries.
Content The qualification is made up of two core units:
· Safe and effective working practices in land-based industries
· Develop performance in land-based industries.
A specialist unit:
· Assist with maintaining the health and well-being of animals.
And a further four additional units:
· Introduction to wildlife and conservation
· Animals in the wild and in society
· Assisting with the preparation and maintenance of animal accommodation
· Assisting with the handling and restraint of animals
· Horse care option.
You will be continually assessed throughout the course with assignments, practical observations, multiple-choice tests and a portfolio of supporting evidence.
Progression/career opportunities This course is a good introduction to the animal care industry and can lead to career opportunities or alternatively progression to the BTEC First Diploma in Animal Care.
Screening
Students will also be screened (in the College) and must achieve literacy and numeracy at the level appropriate to the course.
