Are you seeking to combine the study of a modern language with the study of politics to a high level? As well as gaining competence in a language, our BA Language and/with Global Politics with Foundation Year allows you to acquire advanced knowledge of a range of cultural topics, while also focusing on the nature of politics at the global level: international relations, political economy, and war and security studies.
Before proceeding to the main degree, you will spend your Foundation Year preparing yourself for a degree in the arts by improving your study and research skills and gaining arts-related knowledge and understanding. You will also have the opportunity to take a language module as part of the Foundation Year.

About this course

You will gain the skills necessary for political, sociological, historical and economic analysis in a learning environment that is supportive, radical and exciting. You will also have the chance to study a number of cross-cultural modules exploring specific themes across a variety of language-speaking areas.

Graduates can pursue careers in national and international government, pressure groups, research or education. This degree may also be useful in becoming a journalist, civil service fast-streamer, governmental social research officer, diplomatic services operational officer or charity officer.

We welcome applicants without traditional entry qualifications as we base decisions on our own assessment of qualifications, knowledge and previous work experience. We may waive formal entry requirements based on judgement of academic potential.

Upon successful completion of the Foundation Year, you can automatically progress on to our three-year, full-time, evening study BA Language and/with Global Politics.

COURSE STRUCTURE

For the Foundation Year, you undertake three core modules and choose one option module: either The Arts: Questioning the Contemporary World or a language module.

If you successfully complete these modules, you will automatically advance on to our three-year, full-time, evening study BA Language and/with Global Politics.
