Do I need any additional qualifications/ skills?

How will I be assessed?
This qualification consists of 12 units taught over one academic year. Each unit has a number of elements. Students will be assessed by the written coursework they produce, each unit making up an individual portfolio which has to be completed by a deadline. Work Experience will be a one week block in April. This practical experience will contribute to the coursework and will therefore be assessed. This will be organised by our work placement officer, in consultation with the personal tutor and the student. Functional skills - All students do screening assessments for Literacy and Numeracy at the start of the course. The results of these, plus information from school and/or other college course, will determine whether they work towards Level 1 or towards a lower level such as Entry 3. Students will need a Level 1 if they are to progress onto a Level 2 course. There are three functional skills qualifications that you study towards and which are run throughout the year. These are: Communications, Application of Number, and Information Technology.

What can I do afterwards?
At the end of the course students will have the chance to progress on to Intermediate/ Level 2 courses provided that this coursework is completed to Merit standard. There is also help and guidance for exploring work opportunities and/or training in this industry.

Are there any additional costs involved?
