Who is the programme for? Those who are studying sign language and / or who are: 1 front line staff. 2 wish to study for personal development. 3 friends or colleagues of Deaf People.

What will I study? The course consists of two units both must be passed for the full qualification. K101 - Deaf and Deafblind Awareness ; Types of deafness and deaf blindness; deaf and deafblind peoples preferred communication methods; acceptable terminology; meaning of discrimination; how to avoid difficulties that affect deaf and deafblind peoples access to communication; technical aids; Language Service Professionals (LSPs); the national organisations working with deaf and deafblind people. T101 - Communication Tactics with Deaf and Deafblind People ; Basic skills for communicating with deaf or deafblind people; understanding of how and when a range of tactics can be used to communicate with deaf and deafblind people.

Entry to the Programme?

How is it assessed? The course is assessed with multiple choice paper and internal assessment of practical skills learnt from the course.

Future prospects? Progression to CACDP Level 2 Certificate in Communication with Deaf People is possible.

When will the programme start? The course will run 3 times an academic year.

How long will it take? Both units aim at 10 hours class time with unit T101 involving an extra 4 hours study.

What about the Money? Fees : 65 (Tuition) + 44 (ABF).
