Course programme

The course is arranged in the following units: Processing Bookkeeping Transactions - This delivers the basic language and concepts of double entry bookkeeping for Sales and Purchases. Control Accounts, Journals and the Banking System - This delivers the bookkeeping element and starts to look at basic accounting techniques. Working Effectively in Accounting and Finance - Provides practical transferable skills and knowledge required to work in the accountancy environment including all aspects of business communication, working independently and as part of a team. Basic Costing - Looks at how organisations allocate and apportion costs. Computerised Accounting - Using Sage, students are able to translate their theory of day to day accounting tasks onto a current and popular computerised accounting system. There will be 5 computer based assessments. Some elements do include a significant amount of writing and literacy skills are as critical as numeracy skills. Success depends on a number of things; Regular contact; you will receive a weekly email from the AAT administrator, which will include exam dates, holiday periods and personal progression. If you are not active on the Distance Learning Moodle site weekly, you will receive and email followed by a letter and phone call. Continued non activity can lead to being withdrawn from the course. Students are to warn the AAT administrator if ill or on holiday. The administrator will track your progress, provide feedback on achievements, book exams and ensure you are supported to a timely achievement. 1:1 reviews are available on request should you feel additional clarification or guidance is required. Workshops on specific subjects will be offered as a supplement to the online resources. Once all the subjects in the level have been successfully completed you will be award a QCF Level 2 Certificate in Accounting for the AAT, which is nationally recognised and can help to improve employment prospects and progression.Students will need to enrol onto each of the 5 units separately. Each unit is an individual course and students will have 12 weeks to complete each one. Students must complete all 5 units before they will gain the Level 2 Certificate. Distance learning programmes operate through the college online learning environment; resources are provided by and accessed through the Kaplan website and these include interactive tasks and workbooks. Students can access study materials and activities to develop their knowledge and understanding in preparation for assessments. The administrator monitors each learners activity and progress. Periods of inactivity are followed up and support is provided to learners when they have concerns over topics. In addition to the online delivery, workshops will be delivered in College. Support is available from both the administrator and tutors for academic feedback on request. In College workshops will be available on occasions to support understanding of key topics.
