Work within the limitations of the helping role
Establish boundaries for helping work
Communicate empathic understanding
Focus on the subject’s agenda
Understand the importance of self-awareness in helping work
Use listening and responding skills
Use review and feedback to develop initial counselling skills
The qualification consists of a single unit which develops the learners knowledge of counselling skills.
This qualification is intended for individuals who want to improve their interpersonal and communication skills; who want to learn initial counselling skills, in order to help and support others either in a voluntary or employed capacity; or who want to find out more about counselling. The course does not teach you to be a counsellor, but it may help you to decide whether or not this is a career you might want to pursue.
There are no specific entry requirements however learners should have a minimum of level one in literacy or equivalent (GCSE). However, we require full commitment and willingness to reflect on skills and engage with some abstract concepts of counselling.
