The Level 2 Technical Certificate in Beauty Therapy provides you with specialist practical skills and knowledge which will equip you to seek employment or progression within the beauty Industry.

This qualification covers a very wide range of practical skills and knowledge required for working in the beauty industry.

These are compulsory areas:

• Anatomy and Physiology
• Principles of Practice for Beauty Therapists
• Hair Removal Treatments (Waxing)
• Facial and Skin Analysis Treatments
• Manicure Services
• Pedicure Services
• Light Cured Gel Polish
• Lash and Brow Treatments
• Apply Make-up

Optional areas include:
• Male Skincare Treatments
• Spray Tanning Treatments
• Introduction to the Spa Industry

This qualification is aimed at you if you are looking to work as a beauty therapist in a salon, or mobile or to go on to do the Advanced Level 3 Diploma in Beauty and Spa Therapy. This qualification is suitable for anyone over the age of 16.

As with all our programmes, this course includes tutorial sessions and individual reviews, giving you individual time with your personal tutor. You may also be required to study and achieve further qualifications in English and Maths to assist in your personal development.

There will be optional extra-curricular activities at an additional cost. These may include visits to course appropriate venues, professional workshops and residential visits.

You will need to purchase a kit of essential equipment, which must be obtained before the start of the programme - further details will be given to you at the Welcome Event.

You will also need to complete compulsory work experience as part of your study programme.

Course programme

The programme opens up career opportunities as a therapist in the ever growing industry There are also opportunities available for progression onto Higher Education and further study either at HND or degree level, depending on prior experience and qualifications.

Achievement of this qualification demonstrates to an employer that you have the necessary advanced technical skills to be employed as a theatrical Make-up Artist.

This qualification could lead to a job as a:

• Salon Therapist
• Mobile Therapist
• Make-up counter assistant
• Trainer/educator
• Brow specialist
• Nail specialist

In addition to time spent in College you are expected to complete assignments and other work in your private study time either at home or in College. Work experience is an important aspect of your skills development and will require evening and weekend work in hair and make-up. You will be required to attend an evening session - the class will usually end by 8.00pm.

You will need 2 GCSEs at grade 3 (D) or above.

Entry to the course requires, or on successful completion of a Level 1 Diploma in Beauty Therapy and are able to demonstrate their technical ability. Each candidate will be considered on their experience, suitability, school reference showing good attendance and behaviour and a genuine interest in the industry.

You will be interviewed as part of the college Welcome Event, which will also include screening and assessment. If successful in gaining a place you will be required to attend a Taster Day during the summer before the start of your course.

A well-groomed and professional appearance is essential as you will be working with the public and need to present a professional image.
Great importance is also placed on reliability requiring regular attendance and punctuality.
You will be advised of any materials you will need to purchase for your course when you attend the Welcome Event/Progression interview.

In addition to the entry qualifications listed, the offer of a place on the course is subject to the outcomes of initial assessment, which will be taken at the College as part of the admissions process. Please note that entry criteria may vary quite significantly between courses at the same level. This is to take account of the specific skills needed for success on particular courses, the length of the course and the requirements for progression to the next level. Entry criteria are given as a guide, and the exact requirements in order to obtain a place on a particular course will be confirmed following attendance at a Welcome Event/Interview.
