About this course
There are no specific pre-requisite qualifications, but there is an element of communication (discussing, presenting, reading and writing) involved, andcandidates should have basic skills in communication pitched at Level 2. It is highly recommended that candidates undergo a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check prior to commencing the course.

A vocationally related qualification (VRQ), at Level 2 on the National Qualifications Framework. Physical activity in this context may be for groups or individuals, and could include sessions to: introduce a sport or activity, offer fun and enjoyable recreational
activities, develop social skills, and/or help children grow as individuals. Candidates will train to a professionally competent level, enabling them to plan and deliver safe and effective group and individual physical exercise sessions for children up to the age of 5 years, and older children aged 5 to 11 years.

- Unit 2 – Preparing a Physical Activity Session for Children (K/500/3655)
- Unit 3 – Teaching a Physical Activity Session for Children (M/500/3656)
- Unit 4 – Concluding and Reviewing a Physical Activity Session for Children (T/500/3657)
- Unit 5 – Introduction to Working with Children (A/500/3658).
Internally assessed:
- Detailed session plan
- Direct observation of candidate preparing for the session
- Worksheet
- Direct observation of candidate teaching the session
- Direct observation of candidate concluding and reviewing a physical activity session
- Session review form and an incident/accident report form
- Reflective practice worksheet.
Externally assessed:
A 75 minute theory paper consisting of thirty multiple choice questions.
