The BTEC Level 3 Diploma requires successful completion of eight units including: communications for technicians; further electrical principles; electronic measurement & test; welding technology; electronic fault-finding; three-phase motors and drives; principles & operation of three-phase systems; engineering primary forming processes; engineering project. After successful completion of the first year, you may wish to sign up for an Extended Diploma which requires successful completion of a further eight units. As part of your programme you will also complete functional skills in English, Maths and ICT at the correct level for your programme. You may also complete the wider key skills: working with others and improving own learning & performance.

About this course
The programme is full-time for one year, starting September each year and ending in June/July. The exact days and hours depend on the timetable but you can expect to attend for a minimum of 16 hours per week. Please bring a notebook, pens and a calculator. Those wishing to continue onto the Extended Diploma will attend for a further year on a full-time basis.

Course programme
You can achieve an Edexcel Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Engineering after the first year. If after successfully completing the Diploma you carry onto the second year you can achieve an Edexcel Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Engineering. These are nationally recognised and respected qualifications, accepted by employers, universities and professional engineering institutions.
The programme is assessed by a range of methods, including projects, presentations, case studies, in-class assignments and coursework. There will also be external tests in some of the subjects you will study.
