Level 2 Diploma in Hair and Beauty Skills (VRQ)

During this course, you will cover the following units:

• Create an image based on a theme
• Follow health and safety practice in the salon
• Basic plaiting and twisting hair
• Colour hair using semi-permanent colour
• Basic clipper cutting techniques for men's hair
• Basic cutting techniques for women's hair
• Blow dry and finish hair
• Basic winding techniques
• Shampoo and treat hair
• Client and customer skills
• Create and maintain a retail display area in the salon
• Promote yourself and prepare for a job interview
• Promote and sell products and services to clients

Through the mandatory unit, 'Create an image based on a theme', you will learn how to create a mood board detailing all of your ideas for the full look before creating it on a client including hair, make-up and nails, based on your chosen theme. By doing this, you will gain the skills needed to communicate your ideas and will be able to understand why creating a mood board is an important part of developing your overall look.

In addition to these units, you will also have the opportunity to select from the following options:

• Face painting
• Basic nail art
• Eyebrow shaping
• Basic skincare
• Basic photographic make-up
• Basic manicure and pedicure

These optional units will also provide an insight into the hair and beauty industry, relevant hair and beauty products, health and safety, client and customer skills, promoting and selling products and services, promoting yourself, designing retail display areas and preparing for a job interview.
