Health and Social Care
BTEC First Diploma - One-year course
This qualification consists of six coursework units and provides a programme of study that will enable students to develop their knowledge, understanding and some of the practical skills required for working in the care sector.

The following units are compulsory:

• Communication and Individual Rights
• Individual Needs

There will be 60 hours of work experience. Four further units are studied and possible examples of these are:

• Anatomy and Physiology
• Human Lifespan Development
• Health and Social Care Services
• The Impact of Diet on Health

Careers and Further Studies
This qualification can lead to further study - such as the BTEC National Diploma in Health and Social Care. Some students choose to go straight into employment and they can consider a wide range of opportunities in the care field.

General Entry Requirements
At least two GCSEs at grade D or above or a BTEC Introductory Diploma (or equivalent) in a related area at Merit level.
