Level 3/4 Diploma in Foundation Studies - Art & Design (post 18)

This qualification helps you to progress on to

• BA/BSc/FdA at a Higher Education institution

• advanced apprenticeships within the wider commercial/creative based industries and supported through Cambridge Regional College

• employment e.g. a design practice, photography assistant or self-employment

You should be at least 18 years of age
• 1 full A Level in Art minimum grade D or an art related subject (A Level Design Technology, A Level Art History, A Level Photography) or completed a BTEC/UAL Level 3 Diploma/Extended in an Art & Design subject, supported by five GCSE grades 9 - 4 (A*- C) or equivalent including art.

We will also interview learners who are 18 years of age who have successfully completed a level 3 Diploma or Extended Diploma in an Arts related subject at Merit/Distinction level.

In addition

• A portfolio of work submitted at interview which demonstrates evidence of having achieved a standard which will enable the student to benefit from the course
• GCSE English Language and Maths is highly desirable especially if applying to Higher Education
• Show at Welcome Event an interest in the Art and Design industry e.g. portfolio of recent art/design work.

In addition to the entry qualifications listed, the offer of a place on the course is subject to the outcomes of initial assessment, which will be taken at the College as part of the admissions process. Please note that entry criteria may vary quite significantly between courses at the same level. This is to take account of the specific skills needed for success on particular courses, the length of the course and the requirements for progression to the next level. Entry criteria are given as a guide, and the exact requirements in order to obtain a place on a particular course will be confirmed following attendance at a Welcome Event/Interview.

Course work is continually assessed by a range of methods which may include assignments, case studies, course work, self-assessment, feedback from clients and panel reviews. Summative assessment is applied to your Self-Initiated Final Major Project Art Proposal this is graded as: Pass, Merit, Distinction

There is regular one to one tutorial provision.
