Course Content

The Award in Education and Training (Level 3) replaces the previous Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS) qualification. It is an introductory qualification appropriate for teachers, tutors and trainers working within an FE college, Adult and Community Learning Centre or Learning Provider, and for those delivering work-based training or working within voluntary, community, private and public organisations. It is also suitable for people who are considering this kind of work in the future.

The Award offers an introduction to teaching and covers topics such as the roles and responsibilities of a teacher / trainer, planning and delivering inclusive sessions, and assessing learning. There are 3 written assignments, and candidates plan and deliver a 20 minute micro-teach to their peers.

The course consists of 36 guided learning hours, (usually 3 hours per week over 12 weeks.)
There is also some independent study required. The course is available in the evening or daytime (subject to demand). Entry requirements are a Level 2 qualification in English or equivalent level of literacy.
Fees will be ?250 ?20 college registration fee.

Entry Requirements

A minimum Level 2 equivalent in Literacy, and the ability to use a computer for word- processing and submitting assignments via email. Learners will be asked to complete an initial assessment prior to enrolment where their level of study will be determined.

Possible Progression

Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CTLLS) – Associate Teacher status
Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS) – Fully qualified teacher status
