Course Overview
This National Extended Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science is a brilliant qualification for students who wish to deepen their own understanding of how science underpins fitness. The course is the equivalent to 3 A Levels and is perfect those who wish to study at degree level afterward, or pursue careers in personal fitness training, coaching, nutrition and dietetics industries and sport related physiotherapy.
The course is made up of 13 units of work; 8 of which are mandatory (72%), and 4 of which are externally examined (42%). Mandatory units include:
Sports and Exercise Physiology
Functional Anatomy
Applied Exercise Psychology
Field and Laboratory based fitness testing
Biomechanics in sport and exercise science
Coaching for fitness and performance
You will learn how underpinning theories apply to sport and fitness based scenarios and impact on sport performance. You also review your own fitness throughout the programme so that you can appreciate how these principles are developed in everyday life. Students will actively participate in external sporting events through our enrichment programmes, and will attend work experience in the fitness and exercise sector to help keep their knowledge of what they’re learning in the classroom current.
Good English and maths skills are essential for success in studying and for future employment prospects and so Croydon College ensures that these skills are developed in all learning opportunities.
It’s also important to have good English and maths qualifications and so all students will study English and maths and work towards an appropriate level and type of qualification including GCSE. This will be part of all 16-18 year old students’ Study Programme alongside their main vocational or academic qualification and will be discussed with students at interview.
Please note advance applications for September 2016 for this course have now closed. However, you can still come in to apply and enrol during our open enrolment period between Tuesday 30 August and Friday 9 September. .
