This NVQ aims to provide recognition and accreditation for advice and guidance practitioners working in a wide range of contexts, who are in roles featuring a significant degree of autonomy and independence and which are likely to involve the management of staff and resources.

About this course
Individuals need to be 18 years or over and currently working in either a paid or voluntarily capacity.
Candidates should have ideally achieved qualifications in a related area at Level 3 or above. However, this NVQ may be accessed by candidates without a Level 3 who have significant vocational experience, ideally in a supervisory or management role.
A good standard of literacy is required.

Course programme

Course Content
The qualification is made up of four mandatory units
·Develop interactions with advice and guidance clients
·Manage personal case load
·Evaluate and develop own contribution to the service
·Operate within networks
Plus four optional units chosen from the following;
·Support clients to make use of the advice and guidance service
·Assist advice and guidance clients to decide on a course of action
·Prepare clients through advice and guidance for the implementation of a course of action
·Assist clients through advice and guidance to review their achievement of a course of action
·Advocate on behalf of advice and guidance clients
·Prepare to represent advice and guidance client in formal proceedings
·Present cases for advice and guidance clients in formal proceedings
·Negotiate on behalf of advice and guidance clients
·Liaise with other services
·Enable advice and guidance clients to access referral opportunities
·Provide support for other practioners
·Undertake research for the service and its clients
·Design information materials for use in the service
·Provide and maintain information materials for use in the service
·Promote the position of Careers Education Guidance within the organisation
·Identify the contribution of Careers Education Guidance to the achievement of the organisations values, aims and objectives
·Integrate Careers Education Guidance within the curriculum
·Promote Careers Education Guidance within the community
·Negotiate and maintain service agreements
·Facilitate learning in groups
·Prepare and set up Mediation
·Stage the Mediation process
·Manage the process of Mediation
·Promote safe and positive working environments
·Enable learning through demonstration and instruction
How will I be assessed?
To achieve the qualification candidates need to complete the four mandatory and four optional units.
The programme will consist of workshops and support within your workplace. An assessor will be appointed to provide support and assessment with the workplace. You will need to present a portfolio of evidence for assessment and verification.
What can I do next?
This qualification can provide progression to further study at post-graduate or professional level in the same or related areas of study.
