This course is designed to provide you with an introduction to the skills required to draw from the life model. You will work from a variety of models and study a range of poses.

Course content

Level one:
This course is designed to provide you with an introduction to the skills required to draw from the life model. You will work from a variety of models and study a range of poses. You will concentrate on drawing using a selection of different graphic materials and may experiment with some work in colour.

You will make a range of drawings which will be produced from poses of different durations. You will learn to measure and observe as well as gaining an understanding of the materials you use, which will include charcoal, graphite, pen and ink and chalk. You'll also be made aware of artists from the past who have worked from life.

Teaching

You will be taught about the etiquette of the life room at the start of the course. The model will be directed by the tutor to assume a series of short poses, to enable the you to warm up and begin to observe. These short poses will be followed by longer ones at the tutor's discretion. After the first hour you will have a fifteen minute break after which poses will continue until the end of the session. All sessions will involve standing seated and reclined poses.

Equipment and materials costs

Most materials are included in the course fees. You are welcome to bring your own painting and drawing materials along to the class as long as they fit in with the course plan. Your tutor will be able to advise you further on this.

College information

You will be issued with a swipe card which you gain you access to the College buildings entitling you to use the College library and shop.
