This course is for students from Trinidad and Tobago who want to top-up their LPC to an LLM in Legal Practice. You will undertake a research and a dissertation module. The dissertation should be, where possible, in an area of legal practice relevant to your work during your internship or once you have qualified as an attorney. This course is taught via distance learning, enabling you to study at your own time and pace.

You must have completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice (LPC) at DMU to be eligible for this course.

Course programme
Module 1 - Research methods
To demonstrate your ability to acquire a critical awareness of research methodologies and to appreciate the strengths and weaknesses of various research strategies
Module 2 - Dissertation
You must also undertake a dissertation, providing an invaluable opportunity to work in depth on a particular aspect of interest. You will need to apply and enhance technical knowledge and critical awareness in a subject of your choice

Teaching and assessmentThe teaching of the course mostly takes the form of guided self-study with comprehensive online materials. Guidance is received from academic staff via the programme materials which are designed for self-study, telephone, Skype and e-mail communication.
Assessment in the Research Methods Module is through a research methods essay and a dissertation proposal (1500 words). Assessment in the Dissertation Module is by a 10,000 word dissertation in an area of legal practice.
