Course review:
This course looks at computer-based applications for managing business operations such as procurement, transport, warehousing, and inventory. It also presents some ideas on how you can convert basic transaction records into powerful analyses for decision-making.
As a Manager, Planner, or Supervisor you will already appreciate the value of information. Often the large ERP transaction processing systems SAP for example do have the built in capability to produce a wide range of reports. But if they dont meet your needs, generating additional reports can be a long process, even if the requirement is simple. IT departments strongly resist the development of ad hoc reports by end users.
However, additional information. based on raw transaction data, can be usefully analysed on a spreadsheet.
What information systems do you already have? Do you need more and better analysis tools?
Information systems are implemented to improve the organisations effectiveness and efficiency.
Success in implementation depends on the qualities of the system, the characteristics of the organisation, implementation methods, the capabilities of its people, and the timing and quality of the training given.
Designed for Manager, Planners and Supervisors, at the end of the course, delegates will have answers to the following questions:-
- How do Management Information Systems support business strategy and planning?.
- What information do I need to run my part of the organisation?.
- Where can I find financial and operational information in my organisation?.
- How do the existing information systems support my efficiency and effectiveness?.
- What are my highest priority information requirements?`.
- How can I assess the quality of the information available to me?.
- What is the rle of Enterprise Resource Planning systems?.
- What are decision-support systems?.
- How do I match the level of detail to operational requirements of the user?.
- What basic analysis tools are available to convert raw data into information?.
- How do I prevent the system from becoming resource intensive?.
- How can the information system work effectively across functional areas?.
- What are the HR issues involved in developing the MIS.
