What is this course about? This Mandarin course is designed for beginners or near beginners and assumes no prior knowledge. Learning takes place in a relaxed, encouraging and supportive atmosphere, with the emphasis on interactive communication and positive achievement. We believe language learning should be fun and enjoyable. Who is this course for? Beginners or near beginners. No prior knowledge required.
What do I need to get on the course? Interest in the course.
What will I study? Each Elementary course consists of two ten-week terms with a clear set of objectives for each term. After 20 weeks, you should be able to talk about your personal life and activities in the present, past and future. You will also be equipped to deal with typical tourist or leisure activities in the country of your chosen language: ordering a meal or a snack, using public transport, going shopping or asking for information. Emphasis is on using the language for practical purposes, rather than acquiring theoretical knowledge. Most activities will involve speaking and understanding, with a small amount of reading and writing. Above all, we seek to increase your confidence and hence your enjoyment of the country you plan to visit.

You can progress on to the 10 week continuation course
How do I get on the course? Come to City and Islington Sixth Form College, 283 Goswell Road, EC1 from Monday to wednesday 5.-7.00pm. Places subject to availability.
How much does the course cost? This is a full cost course, with no government funding and no concessions. You will pay a further £100 for the continuation course starting in January.
