If you are new to the maritime industry, then you are likely to have attained a first degree or equivalent in a technical, law, finance or management related subject.This course has been developed in partnership with The Honourable Company of Master Mariners. Course programme

Course Content

MSc Maritime Operations and Management in Greece will develop your basic capabilities and knowledge that are necessary to gain an understanding for careers in maritime operations and management. You will also develop skills suitable for taking leadership and management responsibility in a wide range of maritime activities.

You will gain a strong understanding of maritime operations, management, marine law, accountancy and technology and the business environment in which shipping and the offshore industry work. The course will also provide knowledge of selected aspects of risk management, ship design and operation and/or related maritime land-based or offshore structures, sub-sea engineering/mining, marketing, security, risk management and port operations. You will develop skills equipping you for taking leadership and management responsibility in a wide range of maritime activities.

All modules to be taken and offered in Piraeus and London.

  • Maritime environmental issues.
Elective modules

Two modules to be selected.

Students can complete the taught part of the course wholly in Piraeus if they select the two electives that are offered in Piraeus. However, if they prefer, they can opt to take any of the other electives but this would require attendance in London for the duration of the chosen module.

  • Marketing of marine services (London and Piraeus)
  • Risk management (London and Piraeus)
  • Strategic planning for ports & shipping business (London only)
  • Security studies, accident investigation & crisis management (London only)
  • Conceptual ship design (London only)
  • Offshore technology and operations (London only).


Satisfactory completion of the modules and examinations will lead to the award of a Postgraduate Diploma. Alternatively, if in addition, a project followed by a dissertation is undertaken by a student, the satisfactory completion of this element will lead to the award of a Master of Science degree.
