Introduction

Marketing is central to success in modern business. The professional skills of the marketing expert are increasingly a passport through to the most senior positions in companies.

The MSc Marketing at Bristol Business School will give you the skills and insight needed for a successful career in marketing, as well as the qualifications to lift you above other candidates in the job market. This well-established and highly respected course will give you a thorough academic grounding in the subject as well as developing your knowledge, experience and skills. It will also develop your problem solving abilities and will give extensive opportunities for further personal development.

This course can be taken as a one year full-time course, which is ideal if you are at the start of your marketing career. You can also choose to take the flexible part-time course, which is designed for those already in marketing positions who wish to study without taking a career break.

Structure

Content

You will begin by learning core information gathering and presentation skills, including library research and use of web-based resources. You will use in-depth business case studies to learn about the problems of decision-making in international organisations and the challenges of working in teams.

Personal Development Programme

Develop a range of self management skills.

Dissertation

The dissertation is an ideal opportunity to specialise in an area of your choosing and research the topic in-depth. Ideally, this will be in an area designed to open up attractive employment opportunities. We'll give you the training guidance and support needed to help you complete a significant piece of international management research, either practical or theoretical. The dissertation, which you will complete during the summer term, is considered a hugely important part of the Master's programme.

Teaching and learning

You'll be studying in a dynamic and innovative teaching and learning environment. Most of the formal learning takes place through weekly seminars in which there is a high degree of student participation. Learning continues outside of formal classes with case study preparation, background reading and research, either individually or within a team.

Assessment

Assessment is mostly through written coursework, such as essays, reports, mini-projects, or case-study analysis.

Special Features

Placements

Putting it into practice

This programme also offers you the valuable opportunity to spend some time on a work placement in industry. This is a great chance to put some of the theory you have learnt into practice, enhance your CV and gain some valuable work experience. This work placement will normally be during the dissertation phase of the programme and could last from a few months to a more substantial time period depending on your visa circumstances. As organisations are selective, the placement opportunities are competitive so we cannot guarantee that you will get a placement, but we will give you every assistance through our dedicated Placements Office who work closely with the business community and are experienced in supporting students in finding work placements in the UK.
