This course offers students advanced instruction and feedback on their poetry. The classes are arranged as below:

Weeks 1-3: In-class instruction and teaching.
Weeks 4-5: Home-study component 1 - students receive feedback from the tutor on their poetry and revise accordingly.
Weeks 6-8: In class instruction and teaching.
Weeks 9-10: Home study component 2: Students receive feedback from the tutor on their poetry and revise accordingly.
Week 11: Presentation evening of students' work. Students will perform their poetry in front of an audience.

About this course

- Redraft your poetry to a more advanced standard incorporating techniques explored in class and feedback received.
- Participate constructively in a workshop setting

Course programme

You will be exploring advanced techniques and approaches in writing poetry writing. Language, form and structure will all be explored in detail. You will also workshop your own work and that of other students.

Tutor led discussion, workshop readings, critical feedback from the class on your own poems, tutor feedback and discussions of theory and structure. Independent writing and redrafting during the home study components is expected alongside the attendance of the presentation evening.

The City Lit has a range of poetry and writing courses on offer. All students are invited to join us at Late Lines, our regular performance night for City Lit writers. Students are also encouraged to submit their work to Between the Lines, our annual anthology of creative writing.
