Why should I come to Pendleton College?
Students in Media Studies consistently achieve outstanding success. Whether they are using our state of the art television studio, well-equipped film and TV editing suite, producing a print media or engaging with complex media theory, our students produce work of very high quality which has consistently been reflected in very good grades.

What will I study?
You will take two units in the first year: Media Representations and Responses: How do we use and respond to the variety of media that we encounter every day? How does it influence us? How do we interpret it? By studying a variety of different media, you will begin to answer these questions in an informed and intelligent manner. Media Production Processes: This is your chance to put your understanding of media theory and your enthusiasm and creativity to the test by making your own piece of film, television or print media. A further two units are added in the second year: Media Investigation and Production: Building on the skills gained in the first year, you will carry out your own research project before creating a media product for a specific audience. Media - Text, Industry and Audience: By looking at the media industry and at specific media products and how they communicate to their audiences, you will be able to explain the impact of the media in our society.

What will I achieve?
Because you will be involved in a wide range of activities over a two year Media Studies course you will be able to show that you have a variety of creative, practical, IT, academic and personal skills which universities and employers value. It is not surprising then that many of our students go on to media related courses or employment but others have gone into law, philosophy, business, teaching, public relations and tourism. With a good grade in Media, you'll be ready for anything!

How is the course assessed?
Each year you will be assessed by an examination and your practical coursework production which may be part of a film or television programme or a print media piece.

What else will I do?
Students will have the opportunity to watch television shows being recorded, visit the moving image museum in Bradford and enter work into local film festivals. We have had visits from media practitioners and our students have worked on BBC radio productions. Our students' work has also figured prominently in the lists of award winners at out annual and very glamorous Oscars Evening
