The photographic image has a long history of being altered, and digital technologies have greatly expanded the scope for manipulation. This course will explore a wide range of photographic construction practices, from studio images that are planned and assembled, to darkroom manipulations and combined negatives, and retouchers’ use of airbrushing, scalpel, glue, Photoshop, cut and paste, and mixed media.
Over the 4 week course you'll get to grips with all these physical and digital construction techniques to produce your own images, with access to and expert guidance on studio photography, Photoshop, scanning and collage. As well as the practical element the course will explore the historical, contemporary and critical context of photographic manipulation, together with discussions on yours and others' work in development.
