Speech and language therapists who are supporting clients to successfully change might often find clients' ambivalence to change an obstacle in their work. Motivational Interviewing (MI) skills focus on exploring and resolving ambivalence while supporting change in a manner congruent with the person’s own values and concerns. MI skills centre on collaborative conversations between the therapist and the client seeking to evoke and strengthen the person’s own motivation and commitment to change.
