Course programme

An exciting opportunity for a more extended mountain adventure! An introductory day in the Lakes will be followed by a weekend trip to a destination chosen by the group (for example an ascent of Ben Nevis). The course will teach you how to choose, plan and execute an adventure trip. It will also give you a great experience in the outdoors.

What will the course cover and how will it be taught?
Having gained experience, skills and a new group of friends from Module 2, Feel Confident on the Fells, you will now be in a position to plan and take part in a full weekend adventure in the Lake
District or Scotland. This might be an ascent of Ben Nevis via the Carn Mor Dearg Arete, a classic Lakeland peaks weekend or a remote Highland bothy trip. We will be looking at all aspects necessary to make your chosen trip happen.
This course includes:
1. An introductory planning day (including a mountain walk) during which you will choose the objective for the weekend.
2. The opportunity for everyone to become involved in planning the weekend including:

  • Transport
  • Accommodation
  • Food
  • Equipment
  • Route planning

3. A Friday evening to Sunday afternoon expedition, 3-4 weeks after the planning day during which you will use all the skills you have learned.
Your progress will be observed by Tim and you will have discussions about how you are getting on.
You will also keep a diary and use it to record your plans and experiences.

Are there specific requirements for joining?
