About this course
Minimum entry requirement for a Masters degree is normally an Honours Degree or equivalent. Candidates who do not meet this standard will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Not necessary to have a first degree in Int. Politics or related, but evidence that you can complete the course successfully is needed.
Non-native English speakers are required to take a test of academic English language proficiency with required minimum levels equating to an IELTS score of 7.0; a TOEFL score of 610 (paper based test), 100 (internet based test) or 250 (computer based test) with an essay rating of 5.5

This degree provides students with a broad-ranging introduction to the advanced study of International Politics. It does not assume extensive existing disciplinary knowledge, but aims to provide a broad-ranging overview of the major facets of the subject. As such the compulsory elements of the degree is kept to a minimum, allowing students the maximum degree of choice to specialise in options from across the range of subjects offered in the Department.
This degree provides opportunities for students to develop and demonstrate knowledge, understanding, qualities, skills and other attributes in the following areas:
- The assumptions, theories and practices that have defined traditional studies of international politics.
- The indicators of international political change.
- The relationship between political transformation and theories of change.
- The basic principles of research design and strategy;
- A range of methodological and analytical skills applicable in a wide variety of research contexts; and,
- The significance of alternative epistemological positions that provide the context for theory construction, research design and the selection of appropriate analytical techniques
