Module information

Global Marketing and Digital Business
The module is designed to provide you with an understanding of global marketing and digital business theories and concepts. You will gain comprehensive understanding in key areas such as global strategic analysis, the impact of culture on global marketing strategies, strategies for online businesses, pricing strategies and marketing communication. The focus will be on using and applying these and other academic principles to real market situations.

Cross Cultural Management and Leadership
The module will provide you with a critical understanding of the cross-cultural management and leadership by providing you with practical, conceptual and critical understanding of how current enquiry and research into managing and leading across and in different cultures is discussed and practiced.

Business Intelligence
This module is concerned with using business intelligence for decision making. It includes data processing and knowledge management and business success through the systems and information technology taking into consideration associated risks.

International Political Economy
In this module you will study the relationship between economics and politics in the world arena. The International Economic System is more closely integrated now than ever before, as reflected in events such as the banking crisis that started in the United States in 2008, leading to the near collapse of the world’s financial system. The global recession, the sovereign debt crisis, and the political turmoil that ensued, provide clear illustrations of the relationship between governments, politics, international trade and finance, international institutions and private interests.

You will gain an insight into the complexity and interdependence that characterise the political and economic environment where international businesses operate. You will make a critical analysis of contemporary perspectives on international political economy, with specific reference to international trade, production, money and finance, economic transition and development issues. You will also understand how international businesses can influence and respond to their external environment, to anticipate changes.

You do not need to have studied economics before, as these micro and macroeconomic concepts will be developed in the first part of the module and as the module progresses. However, you will need to be aware of recent and contemporary events as they relate to the economy.

Global Strategy
This innovative module focuses on company and organisation strategic analysis and decision making in the context of changing industry structures, and the uncertain business environment in which organisations function, with a specific focus on challenges arising in the complex global arena.

You will examine the theoretical and management issues underpinning a wide range of strategic debates relevant to modern domestic and international organisations. Also, you will pay significant attention in global challenges, including the role of the state and its relationship with transnational corporations. An evaluation of differing approaches to strategy-making will be explored in order to provide an informed and critical view of creative strategies.
After introducing the strategy concepts, this module examines common analytical tools and frameworks used for the purpose of evaluating strategic context and future development opportunities.

New Venture Development
Human beings have engaged in enterprise for millennia and yet, even today there is no agreed definition of entrepreneurship.

Entrepreneurship is often seen in the context of either starting a new venture. Given that most new ventures start off on a small scale, entrepreneurship and small business are often synonymous. However, it is also true that nowadays, large businesses are trying to imitate the behavioural advantages of small businesses. Thus, entrepreneurship is a pervasive and vital concept in any successful organisation.

Over the following weeks you will have the opportunity to explore a range of issues surrounding this fascinating topic. This will include aspects of enterprise such as the entrepreneurial environment and factors that contribute to the birth, survival and death of new firms.

Consultancy Project with Research Methods
This is a cap-stone module that focuses on developing your knowledge, understanding, skills and practical experience of conducting a consultancy project to solve a real business problem and make recommendations for the business client concerned. The skills and knowledge involved are of two aspects: business consultancy skills and knowledge, and research methods. The module will consist of two parts.

In the first part, the taught part, there will be a series of lectures, seminars and workshops to prepare students for conducting a consultancy project. In the second part, you will be conducting a consultancy project for a real organisation independently, with the support of an academic supervisor. At the end of the project, you will have to deliver a group professional presentation to present your findings and recommendations, and write up an individual professional consultancy report.

The taught part will cover basic knowledge of business consultancy, initiating a project, project tender and proposal, project management, client management and research methods and tools.

This capstone module will also require you to write up a reflective statement, reflecting on their learning journey on the course, including your consultancy project experience on this module, how this learning journey has develop your knowledge and skills to enable you to conduct the consultancy project and how this whole experience has enhanced your employability and future career.
