Course programme

BPP's MSc Marketing (CIM upgrade) programme is designed for students with a Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing who wish to upgrade their qualification to a full masters degree in marketing.

The upgrade route recognises the postgraduate credits obtained via completion of the CIM Postgraduate Diploma allowing you to complete the necessary further taught modules and project in order to gain the additional credits required for the MSc award.

It is widely recognised that marketing professionals looking to work at a senior level require more than just strategic knowledge and commercial awareness. Marketing roles have become more focused as employers seek to meet the challenges of increasing audience and medium fragmentation in addition to global competition.

To reflect these industry changes, we have designed a ‘distinctive' MSc upgrade programme that will enable you to build on your knowledge obtained at CIM Postgraduate level. The programme will advance your strategic and practical marketing knowledge and skills. You will also have the chance to specialise through undertaking elective modules such as direct and digital marketing or services marketing.

The programme includes the following features:

* practical and professional skills to build on your existing marketing experience allowing you to make an immediate impact in your work
* a range of electives giving you the opportunity to specialise in your chosen area of marketing
* BPP programme materials prepared in conjunction with practitioners, based on real-life case examples and using business simulations

* teaching provided by a mix of academics and marketing practitioners
* access to first-rate facilities and a specialist business Careers Service
* personal tutor support and guidance to increase your confidence and assist you in realising your potential

Flexible learning

In addition, all BPP's master's programmes include:

* three starts a year - January, May and September
* choice from a range of class times including day and evening
* option to adjust the intensity of your study through our ‘flexi-mode' programme design, meaning you can choose to study anything from a traditional one-year full-time programme through to part-time spread over any period up to a maximum of five years

How is the programme taught?

You will be taught using a combination of small group sessions and interactive lectures.

The small group sessions in particular will have a strong emphasis on student-centred learning. This means many of the classes will include practical skills sessions in which you will actually do the work of a marketing professional rather than just talk about it!

Whole group sessions will typically be organised around a series of short lectures, in combination with interactive activities such as buzz groups. Small group sessions will include seminars and workshops with emphasis on developing practical skills and enhancing understanding through case-study based learning.

The standard ratio of whole-group sessions (WGS) and small-group sessions (SGS) is 1:1, allowing for 90 minutes of WGS and 90 minutes of SGS in a typical week (per module).

In addition, you will have the opportunity to access some of the live lectures in recordings via the Business School's Virtual Learning Environment.
