- an understanding of the cultural and political background of Vienna in the late 18th century- an appreciation of the outside musical ideas influencing the development of musical style in late 18th century Vienna- specific knowledge about certain composers and important works they produced in Vienna in the late 18th century.

The course will, by focusing on a number of important musical works by composers working in Vienna in the late 18th century, reveal the influence of Prague, Milan, Pressburg and the Austrian Netherlands in the development of the Viennese Classical style.
